MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Tennessee Aquaculture Association is to promote aquaculture in the state of Tennessee; and to raise awareness and provide education regarding the importance of water and it's many uses for our citizens. The TNAA is committed to the preservation and safety of the water in Tennessee, and strives to combat pollution of our waterways, as well as vigilantly searching for new and better ways to help renew this vital life source.
Water is a renewable resource that is essential for the very sustenance of life. About 75% of the Earth is covered by water. We are all aware of the need of water for life, but do we really understand all of the possibilities for the usage of this precious commodity? Of course, we need drinking water, but we also use water to produce electricity, for irrigation, for cleaning, in industry and in homes. However, one largely overlooked use for water is aquafarming.
In today’s world with the constant depletion of natural resources, global warming, and the effects of pollution in general, it is essential for us to preserve every possible avenue for natural farming and food production. Aquaculture allows the American farmer to produce both fresh and salt water fish under controlled circumstances, and thus helps to provide organic fish through means that cause virtually no pollution.
Ornamental fish production is another main component of aquaculture. Koi, goldfish and other species of ornamental fish are fast becoming big business in the U.S. and the farming of these types of fish is just another branch of aquaculture.
In addition to fish, all types of vegetables and plants can be grown and harvested through the means of hydroponics. Aquaculture is an all natural way of producing food without causing more damage to our ecosystem.
